The tour continues May 17th at Stade de France in Paris. Metallica also notably opened the show with another instrumental, Ride the Lightning's "The Call of Ktulu" (night one kicked off with "Orion"), and dusted off Load single "Until It Sleeps."Ĭheck out photos, videos and the full 16-song setlist (courtesy of setlist.fm). There was a different pair of opening acts, too: namely, Floor Jansen (who replaced Five Finger Death Punch at the last second) and Ice Nine Kills.Īs for the headliners, they delivered a solid mix of classic material from throughout their catalog, and also the live debuts of three 72 Seasons cuts, "You Must Burn!," "72 Seasons" (played for the first time in front of a crowd) and "If Darkness Had a Son" (the song's first full live performance). The trek features two "No Repeat Weekend" performances in each city, which means that fans gathered in Amsterdam's Johan Cruijff Arena got to see a completely different set from the first night. Knowing the plot of the movie makes the song much more enjoyable.Today (April 29th), Metallica played the second show of their M72 World Tour in support of their new album, 72 Seasons. If you're a Metallica fan, you obviously know this song, but if you if you haven't seen One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, I suggest you watch it. What's interesting is the fact that temp of this section of the song matches to the atmosphere of the scene. Chief, who happened to be his best friend, figured that there's no point in letting his friend live the rest of life as a half-dead human being. This is done because Jacks was almost dead at that point as a result of a lobotomy operation performed on him by doctors at the Sanitarium. Last set of lines, the outro, refers to the fact that Chief, who's native American, kills Jack. This is the same tactic that kindergarten teachers use against kids because kinds ( and adults ) usually fear their parents. So all his childish behaviors will be reexported to his mom. "Build my fear of what's out there / And cannot breathe the open air" refers to the fact that Nurse Ratched lies to her patients by telling nonsense, like in the case of Billy where she tell him that she knows his mother. As the only sane person of Sanitarium, presumably, Jack is always determined to escape it, thus the line, "I see our freedom in my sight."Īs I was reading further into the lyrics, it occurred to me that some lines specifically refer to certain individuals of the movie. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) is definitely the best Metallica song for me, too. It has all the qualities of Sanatarium but has a more catchy main riff and it's even more emotional than sanitarium's. The line, "Just labeled mentally deranged" describe the fact that sanitarium houses mentally ill people. The day that never comes is also a little better that Sanitarium in my opinion. The lyrics of the song accurately reflects the dark atmosphere surrounding the persons portrayed in the movie.įirst verse gives a introduction to the setting of the sanitarium and what it's about. The movie is about the a man ( Jack ) who managed to avoid prison time by pretending to be crazy, thus going into sanitarium instead. The song is based on the movie, One Who Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest starring Jack Nicholson. And the label that put it out is Elektra Records. The band released it as part of their 1986 bestselling album entitled Master of Puppets. Sanitarium (welcome home) lyrics: Welcome to where time stands still No one leaves and no one will Moon is full, never seems to change Just labeled mentally. Among the other fast-moving songs on Master of Puppets, this stands out for its melodic guitar solos and emotional lyrics. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) was released on 3 March 1986. Master of Puppets is a technical genius of a song. "Sanitarium" is a six and a half minute heavy metal power ballad by Metallica that features some of James Hetfield's best writing. Then the atmospheric-induced slow-intro which then kicks into high gear, the full ahead banger and my fourth favourite Metallica song, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), a song that’s just amazing from the inception especially the whole atmosphere and vibe.
